About the pet portrait awards
I started the pet portraits webawards because i have seen so many great arty and pet sites out there i wanted to just say well done to them. On the other side though, there are so many bad sites out there that i feel sometimes they do clutter the internet and i think an 'Internet clean up guy' should be invented!!
Anyone can have a website these days, google pages have really shown us this. With its simple layout, WYSIWYG interface, simple construction tools, that any generation could now create a website with ease. Plus it gives you 100MB of space!
At least the templates that google have provided are simple and classic. One of my pet hates is coming across websites with moving backgrounds, flashing curses and millions of jpegs all over the screen that take hours to load even on broadband. Although you could miss use the Google pages in this way i think its more difficult and you would be inclines to come out with a better looking site with some neat and tidy code. The internet has so many websites to help webmasters, that really one has no excuse for not being able to make their own site, and a good looking site at that.
Although my background is in painting and drawing, being a business owner these days you cant get away from the fact that you have to have a website to promote yourself. I tentatively started out making my own website about 5 years ago, no where near at the beginning, but early enough to watch the internet grow and develop, and watching more and more general households get on-line it has become an every day event – everyone can get on-line and surf. Whether its from the comfort of their own home to the many internet cafes available – coffee and surfing what could be better!
I'm sure this is only the start for google pages and they will add more and more features as the weeks and months go by. I for one still enjoy receiving new submissions to my webawards as it gives me the chance to see new and up and coming websites that i probably wouldn't normally come across in my every days surfing activities :)
